The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry has inaugurated its Eastern Regional Chapter of Chamber ladies in Koforidua. The “Chamber Ladies” is a female wing within the Chamber that seeks to promote and protect women-led businesses.
The Regional Coordinator of the Chamber Ladies, Madam Millicent Amoako Attah, in an interview with the media, said private commercial enterprises and industries in the region will be provided both technical and financial support services by the Chamber to strive to create jobs in the region.
She said the Chamber over the years has undertaken several targeted business support services including capacity building, business advocacy and Policy development, SME Business Clinic, Trade Fairs and Exhibitions, Investment missions, export documentation, business to business meetings and matchmaking to promote and improve businesses of members as well as ensure conducive operating environment.
“We expect that the Koforidua Regional Chamber Ladies through our activities will provide the needed support and guidance to businesswomen in the region.
This will enable the Chamber to achieve its vision of shared growth and prosperity”
Hon. Comfort Asante MCE for New Juaben North on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Seth Acheampong, commended the Regional Chamber for organizing the programme at a time when the Nation need all hands on deck to build the Ghana that we all want.
“I don’t think there is any better time like this to bring together our business women in the Region to work towards a common goal”
According to him, the role of women in the socio-economic development of this country cannot be overemphasized.
However, despite the huge contribution of our women towards the growth of our economy, the unfortunate thing is that most of these women are still in the informal sector; thereby making it quite difficult for them to access some of the interventions that govemment, local and multinational organisations provide for businesses in the formal sector. It is therefore, very beneficial as a business woman to be part of women group like the Chamber Ladies that affords you the opportunity to regularize your business.
He said being a member of the Chamber helps you to streamline your business operations and activities in order to get the needed support from local and international stakeholders.
He added that, membership of the Chamber Ladies, and for that matter the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and industry is a huge opportunity to position yourself and your business to take advantage of the myriad of services that the Chamber provides for its members and the entire business community.
He said women are very good managers and also very resourceful. This enviable qualities of the woman is quite noticeable and evident right from the home, and believe as they come together to lead women businesses in the region, they will bring to bear their God-given qualities to grow the various sectors that the Eastern Region has comparative advantage.
He finally congratulated the newly sworn-in Regional Executives of the Chamber Ladies and also encouraged them to offer selfless leadership to this great group.
He also called on all members of the “Chamber Ladies” to rally behind their Regional Executives to enable them achieve their vision for this noble group in the Region.
The following persons were newly sworn in Regional Executives of the Chamber Ladies, Madam Millicent Amoako Atta – Regional Coordinator, Mrs. Lydia Ofosu Anim – Regional Organiser and Madam Mercy Owusu – Regional Secretary.
The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GNCCI) is an association of business operators, firms, and industries with interests spanning every sector of private enterprise in Ghana. As an advocacy organization, the GNCCI was established with the prime objective of promoting and protecting commercial and industrial interests in the country (Legislative Instrument 611 of 1968).
Chamber Ladies Wing (CLW) is a group of eminent business women of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber recognizes the special role that women play and with the required support they excel in whatever business they do as well as in leadership positions.
Membership is open to all women entrepreneurs of the Chamber. There is a strategy to award business women who have excelled in their various fields of endeavours. The Chamber sees the need to recognize the contributions made by women entrepreneurs to the socio-economic development of Ghana.
