Former Asante Kotoko defender Godfred Yeboah known in football circles as ‘TV’ has refused to blame his former coach Hans Dieter Schmidt for the club’s defeat in the Confederation Cup final in 2004.
Arch-rivals Hearts of Oak triumphed over the Kumasi based outfit at their own backyard after edging them on penalties.
A session of the Kotoko players including Charles Taylor, Michael Osei and others recounting their defeat to the Phobians blamed the German trainer for their defeat.
Taylor, who gave Kotoko the lead in the second leg was substituted despite being the main man for the porcupine warriors. The coach further substituted Michael Osei which saw Hearts of Oak level the pegging.
Yeboah sharing his thought about the game expressed worry for their inability to beat Hearts to clinch the trophy but rescinded to blame his former coach.
In an interview with Koforidua based Bryt FM, he said, “I always feel sad whenever I go the Baba Yara stadium because we never thought Hearts could beat us. Hearts at the time was having one of the best squad likewise Kotoko but we knew we were stronger than them”
“We did everything that we could but we didn’t win it. We should not blame the coach entirely because Hearts knew what they have done before the game”
“Fawaz Zouk brother was with us before the return leg, he told us our coach will mistakenly take Charles Taylor off the pitch as he did in Accra for them to win the trophy. He got his prediction right, so I feel they did something which overrides ours”.
