On Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem on 17th September, Deputy Media Relations Officer of the Ghana GoldBod, Zenab Alhassan, raised concern over increasing cases of gold smuggling in the country. She emphasized that smuggling is illegal and called on the public to provide information on such activities to help curb the menace.
According to her, authorities recently disclosed that some individuals are engaged in smuggling, which undermines the nation’s resources.
She cited a case on 27th August, when one Seidu was arrested at Winneba Junction with 9.2 kilograms of gold valued at GH₵10.2 million. Investigations linked Seidu to one Bernard Nkrumah, a Tier-2 license holder.
Madam Alhassan further revealed that another individual, identified as Ibrahim, is also implicated in the smuggling ring connected to Seidu and Bernard Nkrumah of the Nkrumah Group.
She noted that the GoldBod has provided a toll-free number to the public, which has already yielded several tip-offs leading to successful arrests.
Madam Alhassan, however, cautioned that all culprits involved would be prosecuted to deter others from engaging in gold smuggling.
