Vice President Prof Jane Naaana Opoku-Agyemang visited the Anomabo Fisheries College with His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama.
The visit gave pause for reflection, as the College—once in its final stages of completion—has been abandoned for the past eight years, leading to a significant deterioration of its infrastructure.
The establishment of the college was intended to empower fishing communities along Ghana’s coastal towns by providing research-driven solutions to enhance the fishing and aquaculture industries.

Its completion would align with the Blue Ocean Economy flagship initiative outlined in the NDC 2024 manifesto, aimed at maximizing the economic potential of Ghana’s fisheries sector.
They were acompanied by Hon. Emelia Arthur, Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture and pledged to undertake the necessary renovations to complete the college.
This commitment is not only a fulfillment of national development objectives but also an effort to honor the vision of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, who was instrumental in the college’s design and establishment in 2008.
