President Akufo-Addo led administration has delivered 12 campaign promises for the past three years in the Energy and Petroleum Ministry, according to statistics from the Vice president office.
Alhaji Dr. Bawumia, who was addressing a town hall meeting and results fair in Kumasi, said the government is on course to deliver all campaign promises and tackle other key issues affecting the Energy sector but were not captured in the manifesto.
The Town Hall Meeting, organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Ministry of Monitoring and Evaluation, was designed to afford the government the platform to account for stakeholders on the execution of its programs.
It allowed high-ranking government officials to give an empirical account of work executed in various sectors and to take feedback from stakeholders.
Below are the key policies delivered within the Energy Ministry:
1. Develop a 10-year Power Sector Master Plan to meet medium and long term energy needs
2. End DUMSOR in the short term
3. Reduce taxes on electricity tariffs to households and industry
4. Ensure that procurement of new power projects are executed primarily through PPP and IPP arrangements and are transparent and resulting in least-cost addition of power generation infrastructure
5. Ensure there is sufficient Reserve Margin to ensure the stability of the system.
6. Improve transparency in the management of our oil and gas resources
6. Redeem government obligations to Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs)
7. Ensure effective implementation of the petroleum price deregulation policy.
13. Improve the quality of fuel produced or imported into Ghana by reviewing standards for sulfur content in the fuels.
8. Develop a Financial Restructuring and Recovery Plan for the Energy Sector.
9. Implement an “Accelerated Oil Capacity Development Programme” to build Ghanaian capacity to manage the oil and gas sector
10. Revise gas processing and transportation Tariffs as well as Levies.
11. Decouple Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)
12. Accelerate oil exploration in the Volta basin
