Deputy Lands and Natural Resources Minister, George Mireku Duker has interacted with representatives of large-scale mining companies within the country, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Anglogold Ashanti, Perseus Mines, Asanko Gold Ltd, Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), Kinross Ltd, Golden Star Resources, Cardinal Resources, Newmont Ghana among many others were duly represented.
In his address, the deputy minister and MP for Tarkwa-Nsuaem outlined the various initiatives the Ministry is undertaking to make the mining sector better and environmentally friendly.
He addressed the representatives on the government’s plans in line with the reduction of Exploration tax, duration extension of Gold Export License and audit of large-scale mines operations which will commence in 2022.
Hon. George Mireku Duker also used the opportunity to rally the support of the companies to support the Government’s flagship policy of Community Mining schemes which seeks to create jobs in mining districts which is clearly backed by law.
The minister, however, took notice of the various concerns raised by the companies and I assured them that government will do its best to deal with them holistically.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr Sulemana Koney commended the Ministry for the various steps taken to support the Chamber of Mines.
He further applauded the Ministry for using technology to sanitize the Small-Scale Mining Sector.
Mr Martin Ayisi, CEO of Minerals Commission and his Deputy Mr Samuel Tika, Mr Benjamin Aryee, Advisor on Mines, Mr Peter Awuah, Technical Director of Mines and other officials accompanied the deputy minister.
