The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said Government recognizes the gaps in the Country’s health infrastructure and is committed to filing as many of the gaps as possible in building human resources, physical infrastructure, and all the complementary aspects of the health system.
He said While tackling inadequate infrastructure in the health sector, it is disheartening to see people spend so much time moving from one pharmacy to the other in search of medication.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said this when he launched the policy and guidelines for the National E-Pharmacy program as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to improve access to and delivery of health care to Ghanaians.
The e-pharmacy platform will conscript all registered medical practitioners and other licensed health professionals, to a pharmacist in the dispensing of some specific drugs to patients.
It will do so by:
1. Registering clients or patients;
2. Issue, Administer & Validate Prescriptions;
3. Sell & Deliver Prescribed Drugs;
4. Record & Report on Pharmaceutical Interactions;
5. Offer Pharmaceutical Care;
6. Give Medical Services Support (diagnostic test booking);
7. Monitor, Maintain and Control the Quality of Drug Dispensary;
8. Give Periodic Report on the Therapeutic Effectiveness of Drugs;
9. By Following-up and Evaluating Drug Usage, and lastly;
10. Disseminate Correct & Accurate Information about Drugs-Consumer Education.
