Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu in the Volta region has described it as insensitive on the part of the government to purchase a new presidential jet.
According to the outspoken lawmaker, the decision cannot be justified under any circumstance, particularly, when Parliament was told in 2008 that the current Presidential Jet has a lifespan of at least 20 years.
He stressed the jet has been used for only 11 years since it arrived in October 2010 and wondered why it is seem unfit to fly the President in his travels.
In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, stated “I produce here, the official Parliamentary Hansard of 19 March 2008 where Albert Kan-Dapaah, former Defence Minister under President Kufuor and now National Security Minister, confirms beyond doubt, the existence of Presidential Jets since the Nkrumah era. This was during the debate leading to the purchase of the current Presidential Jet — the Falcon 900-EXE”.
“Dishonesty and lack of candor wouldn’t aid President Akufo-Addo’s misguided quest to buy a new Presidential Jet. This agenda remains grossly insensitive and cannot be justified under any circumstance, particularly, when Parliament was told in 2008 that the current Presidential Jet has a lifespan of at least 20 years. The jet has been with us for only 11 years since it arrived in October 2010”.
