Member of Parliament (MP) for the Madina Constituency, Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu, has said that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government have not been transparent in the fight of galamsey in the country.
According to him, the government must be accountable for the process because the galamsey fights have become an international issue.
He continued that galamsey miners are committing environmental errors hence the government must deal with them responsibly.
Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu affirmed that because there was no openness and accountability with the operation vanguard, it led the current operation into a suspicious action.
“What are the operational guidelines for the 200 military officers you deployed,’’ Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu questioned the government.
In an interview with Accra-based radio station, Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu indicated that the government vision to fight against galamsey is not showing leadership and appropriate directions.
“The reason why the fight against galamsey has become difficult for the government is that there are influential people in society who support the galamsey miners.
The government must go to the drawing board and come out with clearer direction.
We must know how the government intends to deal with galamsey miners,’’ said Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu.
Hon Francis-Xavier Sosu averred that the statement issued and signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah about the 200 military officers dispatched for the exercise is insufficient.
