Mr. Ambrose Dery, Minister of the Interior, has stated that the government is dedicated to holding security personnel accountable for their conduct.
To label a police force professional means that it is governed by a code of ethics, that it has credible accountability systems, and that it maintains its integrity in providing a particular level of service to the public. The Ghanaian police force lacks these characteristics as per many observational complaints from citizens.
These high-level priority concerns triggered for action nonetheless made the Minister of Interior indicate there had recently been discussions regarding body cams, which would provide documentation of what transpired in any circumstance.
“But at the same time, we must recognize that this security personnel has put their lives on the line for this country and we should acknowledge that.”
“This country’s security agencies have gained international recognition and they do a lot of good work,” Mr. Dery stated during a press after receiving the Ejura Committee Report.
Notwithstanding that, Mr. Dery stated that the government took extremely severe actions when it suspected a mistake was caused by security personnel.
“After 24 hours, the Army Commander was in Wa apologizing to the people, and action was done within a week, with disciplinary sanctions imposed on all those determined to be culpable.” Mr. Dery stated this with regards to the recent incident in Wa.
The Interior Minister indicated that the Military Leader was in Wa within 24 hours, apologizing to the people which action was taken within a week including disciplinary consequences applied on all those found to be responsible.
Ghana’s status as Africa’s second most peaceful country, according to the Interior Minister, belongs to every person since it is the citizens that support it.
The Interior Minister stated that security should take precedence over politics and that everyone should assist security in carrying out their duties.
