According to Mavis Hawa Koomson, minister of fisheries and aquaculture development, the government would keep trying to make life better for those who live in coastal villages.
She claimed that the overall goal of doing this was to develop the nation’s fishing and aquaculture industries.
When she met last Monday with all 14 of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constituency chairpersons in coastal communities in the Greater Accra Region at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Mrs. Koomson, who is also the MP for the Awutu-Senya East Constituency in the Central Region, made this statement.
The NPP national executive organized the meeting to provide Ms. Koomson a chance to speak with the constituency chairpersons and discuss how to address some of their valid concerns regarding the work of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
It came after the minister’s trip to the party headquarters the previous week to get ready for the meeting. At the party’s national office, she was welcomed with open arms by the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, and other party members.
The gathering also contributed to a campaign launched by the current national executive to strengthen party-government ties through frequent interactions.
In order to improve the livelihood of the fishing community, it also functioned as a forum for discussing how to ensure efficient coordination between the Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Ministry and the party.
Despite some recent problems with premix fuel distribution and sales, the closing and opening of the fishing season, and other things, according to Mrs. Koomson, her ministry had implemented improvements to the nation’s fishing and aquaculture sectors.
She assured them that her administration would make every effort to enhance the livelihoods of fishermen and fishing communities nationwide.
