The Commissioner-General of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Col. Kwadwo Damoah (rtd) has visited the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour at his office.
The visit forms part of a three-day working visit of the GRA Boss to the Eastern region to interact with staff and familiarize himself with the operations and challenges of the Eastern Regional Office.
According to Col. Damoah, since he assumed duty as Commissioner in June last year, he had visited all the 15 Regions in the country, that, the Eastern Region is the last Region on the agenda.
The Eastern Regional Minister Commended GRA for rolling out many innovative platforms and policies to maximize revenue collection in the country.
He acknowledged that without adequate revenue the government couldn’t have chalked the successes made in the implementation of its major flagship programs including the Free Senior high school policy which is benefiting thousands of Ghanaian Children.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was established in 2009 as a merger of the three revenue agencies, the Customs, Excise, and Preventive Service (CEPS), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Value Added Tax Service (VATS) and the Revenue Agencies Governing Board (RAGB) by the Ghana Revenue Authority Act 2009, (Act 791).
The core mandate of GRA is to ensure maximum compliance with all relevant laws to ensure a sustainable revenue stream for the government, trade facilitation, and a controlled and safe flow of goods across the country’s borders.
It also administers several international agreements that govern relations with other tax jurisdictions and institutions such as World Customs Organisation Protocols, World Trade Organisation Protocols, Double Taxation, and Exchange of Information Agreements.
Since 2009, the GRA has employed markedly innovative and cost-effective technologies to facilitate the filing of returns and payment of taxes in line with tax laws. Two of these are the Integrated Tax Application and Preparation Systems (iTaPS) and the Excise Tax Stamp Authenticator (ETSA) which were rolled out in 2018
