The Sefwi Wiawso forest district manager of the Forestry commission in the Western north region, Mr Raymond Obeng Boamah has stated that, the district has a total target of 320,000 seedlings for the Green Ghana project this year, 220,000 seedlings in the forest reserves, and 100,000 seedlings as trees on farms and amnesty planting.
In an interview with the media on Tuesday, Mr Raymond Obeng Boamah disclosed his outfit’s target, while expressing his appreciation for the various stakeholders’ tremendous collaborations.
Mr Raymond Obeng said most of the seedlings will be planted in the forest reserves as done in the previous years.
Adding they have met with the stakeholders to ensure the seedlings planted are maintained to ensure proper growth.
Although he is enthused with the progress of the project, he therefore placed emphasis that the Green Ghana Project is aimed at restoring degraded portions of the forest Reserves.
He said the response to the Green Ghana project has been positive, citing chiefs, schools, the assembly as well as the community for their collaborative effort for the betterment of the program.
He made mention of economic and environment benefits of the trees to the nation as a whole. Adding they are focusing on planting the indigenous species, thus the Ofram, Mahogany, Emiri, and the exotic ones.
He seized the opportunity to entreat the public to protect the forest Reserves for the present and future generations.
