Residents of Akwatia Township and its surrounding communities in Eastern Region have been facing power supply challenges following a fire outbreak at the Akwatia Substation on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Dzifa Bampoh, Manager of the Corporate Communications Section at GRIDCo, in a statement issued Monday said, the Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) has been working tirelessly to address the situation.
The statement said, by swift intervention of engineers from GRIDCo and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), power supply was partially restored to some affected customers by Friday, May 31, 2024.
As of this morning, approximately sixty percent (60%) of the affected areas have had their power restored. GRIDCo engineers have been on site since the incident occurred, working around the clock to ensure full restoration of power by 6 PM today.
GRIDCo expressed its gratitude to the residents for their patience and understanding during this challenging period and has sincerely apologized for the inconvenience caused.
However, internal investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.
