The leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to render an apology over recent media attacks.
The meeting also provided a platform to discuss key issues aimed at strengthening collaboration between the government and nurses.
The health minister graciously accepted the apology and urged the Association to prioritize dialogue and constructive engagement with the government.
Hon. Akandoh reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with healthcare professionals to improve healthcare delivery nationwide.
He highlighted some achievements of the current administration, including: the integration of 13,500 nurses into the government payroll, establishment of the Ghana Medical Training Fund (GMTF) and retooling of various government health facilities,
On the achievement, Hon. Akandoh articulated the government’s absorption of 50% of admission fees for nursing training institutions and payment of arrears on nursing training allowances and NHIS claims.
He further pledged the successful implementation of the collective bargaining agreement to enhance conditions of service for nurses, while supporting ongoing reforms in line with achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The Minister also called for calm, urging all stakeholders and the public to remain supportive as the government works to resolve challenges in the health sector.
During the meeting, the GRNMA leadership presented several concerns affecting healthcare professionals and called for urgent interventions to improve service delivery.
The GRNMA delegation included former President Alice Darkoa Asare-Allotey, Immediate Past President Dr. Krobea Asante, Current President Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and General Secretary Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum.
