The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway has said that Ghana will host a Strange ECOWAS summit on Thursday, 16 September 2021 over Guinea and Mali unrest.
She affirmed that Guinea and Mali would not be attending the Summit since the deliberation is about the unrest in both countries.
The minister added that leaders from about 13 West African countries have started arriving in Ghana ahead of an ECOWAS Strange ECOWAS meeting.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the military takeover in Guinea led by Colonel Mamadou Dambouya.
The meeting will enable the authority of heads of states and Government under the Leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of Ghana to discover ways of diminishing the growing tension in the sub-region.
As a result of the upcoming meeting, the Police Service has announced that parts of the Liberation and Independence roads in Accra will experience a temporary disruption of traffic flow on Thursday due to the summit.
The roadblock is to help the transportation of Heads of States and Governments who will participate in the extraordinary session.
Some of the areas include; the Kotoka International Airport, Opebia, Akuafo Roundabout, Afrikiko, Ako-Adjei interchange, National Theatre, Ridge Roundabout, and finally Kempinski Hotel.
