Former King Faisal defender, Habib Mohammed has named Stephen Appiah as the best ever player to have captained the Black Stars.
According to him, Appiah’s leadership style during his stint with the Black Stars was exceptional having controlled the dressing room well.
Stephen Appiah ‘Tornado’ captained the Black Stars between 2005 and 2010.
Habib Mohammed, a member of the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad in an interview with Don Summer of Angel FM in Kumasi chose the former Juventus midfielder as the best ever skipper to lead the Black Stars because Appiah’s reign was peaceful.
“Stephen Appiah is one captain I respect most. I felt happy at camp because there wasn’t anything like seniority at the time we were playing for the Black Stars. Truth to be told, he will let you know that you deserve to play and that’s why you are selected”
“In fact, Appiah motivated us a lot. Even other senior players including Michael Essien used to advise us prior to games. One thing is that the 2006 squad was united, unlike this time. There wasn’t anything like disunity under Stephen Appiah”
