Nana Akomea has chastised demonstrators during the “Hands Off Our Hotels” event in Accra on Tuesday, June 18.
Hundreds of Ghanaians, including prominent members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and organized labor, came to the streets to express their disapproval of the sale of four hotels to Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Agriculture’s company, Rock City Hotel.
Speaking on the subject at a panel discussion program called “Kokrokoo” on Peace FM, the STC Chief Executive Officer questioned the protest’s relevance, pointing out that the organizers have already asked CHRAJ to look into the sale of the SSNIT hotel and that he expects them to let the Commission do its work.
When the protestors attempted to march into the Jubilee House but were stopped by the police, the demonstration descended into violence.
According to reports, the demonstrators threw stones at the police, who responded by dispersing them with tear gas and pepper spray.
However, Nana Akomea felt that this demonstration was unnecessary.
“I don’t see the importance of the demonstration because you, the demonstrators, have already petitioned CHRAJ over the issue,” he stated.
