As hundreds turned up for the second phase of Ghana Immigration Service recruitment which occurred on Monday, October 25th, 2021, some people were disqualified for altering their bodies and not reaching the height limit required.
Speaking on the reasons why some applicants are disqualified from the GIS recruitment, Security Expert, Emmanuel Sowatey in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi Fm, highlighted that every working sector has its requirements for employment.
According to him, he believes that some of the applicants were disqualified because they didn’t meet the cultural setting; this is because tattoos and several piercings on the body are not culturally accepted in society.
“Any profession whatever they may be are different but within a similar society with different norms, rules, and cultural ways. These are certain things that our culture frowns on”, he said.
However, he added that the fact that someone has a piercing, tattoo of stretch marks does not mean they are not capable of the job.
He highlighted that the media can also play a major role in the security service because a lot of misinformation occurs which can be rectified by the media.
“The media can ask questions about the requirements of recruitment and why some people don’t have them but are in the service”.
He added that some people in the service have tattoos and do not reach the height limit yet they are working in the immigration service while some people complain of not being informed about the recruitment process.
“Since the media is supposed to educate they should tackle issues like this to inform the public that is when we can practice legal democracy”.
He opined that recruits should take note of their fitness since it is also an important factor in the service.
