The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has revealed that Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson was attacked by National Democratic Congress (NDC) thugs which led to her firing the warning shot.
According to him, the incident which took place during the registration exercise on last Monday at Kasoa registration centre is a result of violence.
Speaking in an interview with a Kumasi based radio station, Chairman Wontumi called on the Police to deal with the thugs that tried to assault Mavis Hawa Koomson.
Chairman Wontumi added that Mavis Hawa Koomson fired the warning shot in order to defend herself but not to harm anyone including the NDC thugs.
“Mavis Hawa Koomson fired a bullet into the air but it didn’t even harm anything that flies,’’ he added.
He condemned members of the NDC who claim are to be blamed for the violence that nearly destroyed the registration exercise.
