Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition and it is the third most common cause of death after Heart Diseases and Cancer.
Over a period of time, it can lead to Blindness, Kidney failure, Heart Diseases Nerve Damage / Stroke etc.
The Number of People with Diabetes rose from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014.
In 2016, an estimated 1.6 million deaths were directly caused by diabetes.
Another 2.2 million deaths were attributable to high blood glucose in 2012.
Specifically, in Ghana, studies on the general population have estimated that between 3.3 and 6% of the population has diabetes with the prevalence increasing with age and being higher in urban than in rural areas.
