The Hon. Minster for health, Ghana, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu represented H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana to chair the second global meeting of group of heads of states on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases which took place on the margins of the 78th United Nations General Assembly his control.
He noted the efforts put in place since the first annual gathering in launching the maiden Global Report on Hypertension which underscores the far-reaching consequences of uncontrolled hypertension – ranging from heart attacks, strokes, and premature death to substantial economic loss.
He urged members of the Global Group of Heads of State and Governments to continue to raise the priority accorded to the prevention and control of NCDs, showcase national and international actions on Non-Communicable Diseases and Sustainable Development Goals; discuss how to leverage the collective efforts to inspire and support global actions on NCDs. We need to do more, and the time is now.
In his conclusion, he reiterated the need for countries to engage each other on the NCD agenda; align priorities to the Global Action Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases, invest adequately to the priorities and agreed actions and account as stewards to the populations we serve.
