The Herbal Medicine Association of Ghana has paid a courtesy visit on the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and has called for greater support for traditional medicine.
The Association seized the opportunity to discuss key challenges facing the traditional and herbal medicine sector, emphasizing the need for wider distribution of traditional medicines across hospitals to reduce the country’s reliance on imported pharmaceuticals.
During the discussion, the Association highlighted the economic potential of herbal medicine and advocated for the integration of more herbal units into the new hospitals being constructed under the Agenda 111 project.
In response, Hon. Akandoh reaffirmed his commitment to supporting traditional medicine, assuring the Association that the sector would receive the recognition it deserves. He further disclosed that the President has already included provisions for the advancement of traditional medicine in his manifesto.
To further strengthen the sector, the Minister encouraged the Herbal Association to attract investors to secure funding, reducing the financial burden on the government while fostering sustainable growth.

• Ghana Association of Women and Youth in Herbal Medicine Practice
• Ghana Association of Medical Herbalists (GAMH)
The meeting underscored the growing importance of traditional medicine in Ghana’s healthcare system and the need for collaborative efforts to enhance its development and accessibility.
