The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has embarked on a working tour of key health facilities and traditional authorities in the Savannah Region, reaffirming the government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure, improving healthcare delivery, and addressing long-standing operational challenges across the sector.
𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐨
At Damongo, the Regional Capital, the Minister visited the Regional Hospital project site, where he assured stakeholders that construction works will resume in early January.
He expressed gratitude to the traditional authorities after the Chiefs allocated 50 acres of land for the project’s development.
Hon. Akandoh also paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura at his palace. In recognition of his dedication to improving healthcare access for all Ghanaians, the Yagbonwura conferred on him the honorary title of “Chief of Health.”
The Minister made a stop at the Damongo Nursing and Midwifery College, where he assured newly admitted students that their training allowances will be paid by the end of the month.
He commended both teaching and non-teaching staff in Health Training Institutions for their steadfast commitment to training the next generation of health professionals.
Hon. Akandoh further held a meeting at the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council, where he engaged the Regional Minister, District Chief Executives, and departmental heads on strategies to retain medical officers posted to the region and strengthen healthcare delivery.
𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐞
In Bole, the Minister paid a courtesy call on the Bolewura, who reaffirmed the title bestowed earlier by the Yagbonwura.
At the palace, Hon. Akandoh announced plans for the construction of a new District Hospital for Bole, scheduled to begin next year. The Chief pledged 20 acres of land for the project.
At the Bole Nursing and Midwifery College, the Minister assured staff and students that officers from the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) will visit the institution to help open bank accounts to facilitate the smooth payment of student allowances.
The Minister also toured the Bole Hospital, where he pledged support to help address the facility’s pressing challenges while plans for the new hospital take shape.
𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐚
Hon. Akandoh’s final stop was at Salaga, where he inspected the stalled Salaga Hospital project, abandoned since 2017. As part of his renewed commitment to completing all uncompleted health projects, he assured the people of Salaga that construction will be revived.
While in the area, the Minister also joined the family of Calistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, at the funeral of his late mother, Madam Salomey Ama Mahama.
