A delegation led by the Regional Director for the Western Africa Regional Coordinating Centre, Dr Allion Kokou, from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Ministry and Africa CDC to discuss the implementation of the Data Sharing Agreement, which aims to facilitate the exchange of critical health data to enhance disease surveillance, prevention, and control.
A presentation by Prof. Olayinka Ilensami, the Regional Programme Lead for the Western RCC, focused on exploring ways to strengthen collaboration between Africa CDC and the Ministry.
He also urged all health ministers from the 15 member states to attend the inaugural Health Ministerial Summit in Côte d’Ivoire in March 2025.
Hon. Akandoh, while receiving the delegation, described the meeting as timely, aligning with the government’s priority of establishing a strong framework to address emergencies and disease outbreaks.
He highlighted the significance of the partnership, emphasizing the critical role Africa CDC has played in enhancing Ghana’s capacity to respond to public health emergencies.
