A Nigerian high court judge, Justice Joy Uwanna, has been kidnapped in southern Akwa Ibom state while returning from a court session.
Unidentified gunmen ambushed her vehicle along Uyo-Okoboin in Oron town, fatally shooting her police guard during the abduction.
The assailants targeted the judge’s security detail before taking her and her driver away.
The police are actively investigating the incident, and as of now, no group has claimed responsibility.
The incident underscores the security challenges in Nigeria, particularly in regions where criminal gangs frequently engage in abductions for ransom.
