A delegation from the Ho Teaching Hospital and the Yonsei University Industry Consortium, Korea, led by Dr. John Tampuori, CEO of Ho Teaching Hospital, has paid a working visit to the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, to brief him on feasibility studies for expanding infrastructure at the hospital.
During the meeting, the delegation presented the final feasibility report from Accra, highlighting plans for a $280 million expansion project that would enhance healthcare delivery and support the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and other institutions.
They engaged chiefs, civil society groups, and the Volta Regional Parliamentary Caucus to rally support for the project and urged Hon. Gunu to add his voice to the advocacy to ensure that the facility is established in the Volta Region.
A Korean professor So Yoon Kim on the team expressed optimism about the collaboration, noting that the Korean Government has worked with Ghana for years and hopes to see the partnership continue and grow.
Hon. James Gunu welcomed the delegation and commended their efforts in pushing for such a transformational project. He acknowledged the significance of the 500 bed facility, which would include state of the art medical infrastructure and a specialized spinal surgery unit, positioning Ho Teaching Hospital as a leading medical hub in the Volta Region.
He further emphasized the need for broad stakeholder consultations to ensure the project’s success, pledging to work closely with key players to bring the vision of the late founder of the NDC, Jerry John Rawlings, to life.
Hon. Gunu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the initiative, recognizing its potential to elevate healthcare standards in the Volta Region and beyond.
