The Human Trafficking Secretariat (HTS) under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has organized a Two-day ‘Training Programme for Stakeholders on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Reporting’ from 13th to 14th June 2023 in Accra.
Among other things, the purpose of the training was to;
- Ensure consistency and compliance with reporting standards and guidelines.
- Familiarize stakeholders with the structure and format of the TIP reporting template to improve data collection.
- Demonstrate how to fill in the required information and data in the template.
- Provide feedback and guidance on the quality and accuracy of the reports.
In a welcome address read on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Head of the Human Trafficking Secretariat, Madam Abena Annobea Asare said the training will serve as a reference point for stakeholders to improve their knowledge on child trafficking, irregular migration as well as all forms of exploitation in the country.
“This workshop is necessary due to low levels of knowledge and inadequacy of response systems in our communities in reporting cases of human trafficking and the general protection of children”, she emphasized.
She encouraged participants to raise awareness and campaigns to help identify victims, prevent trafficking in persons, punish offenders and support victims in the country.
Delivering her statement, the Director for International Justice Mission West Africa (IJM), Mrs Anita Budu thanked the Ministry for organizing such an important training which is key in helping the participants to report a reliable data that would be beneficial in crafting relevant policy intervention.
Mrs Budu urged Government, CSOs, and stakeholders to collaborate and redoubled their efforts in ending human trafficking.
She therefore reiterated CSOs commitment to collaborate with the Government of Ghana, MoGCSP and other stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the new National Action Plan (NPA) in order to eliminate Human Trafficking in the country.
