Suspended former Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, Bernard Allottey Jacobs, has reservedly welcomed his suspension from the party.
The Functional Executive Committee of the NDC acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee suspended Allotey Jacobs after a meeting Wednesday, May 6, 2020, for “anti-Party Conduct”, according to a statement signed by National Chairman of the NDC Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
He has been further referred to the Disciplinary Committee of the party.
But Speaking to the media a few minutes after his suspension, Allotey Jacobs, said he has taken a new role in Ghanaian Politics as a social Commentator to speak truth to power.
“I have accepted my suspension. I have taken a new role in politics. There is a need to change our political discourse. We need to speak truth to power. If something is worth commending let’s do so, if we need to criticize and condemn, let’s do so.so if because of this I say I am a social commentator to pursue this personal position I have taken but the party sees it as anti-party conduct then so be it”.He said.
The suspension of Allotey Jacobs was preceded by a press statement signed by National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, indicating a boycott of “Kokrokoo” Morning show hosted by legendary Kwame Sefa Kaye for continuously paneling Allotey Jacobs on his show on Wednesdays as a Social Commentator though a staunch member of NDC. Despite complaints by the party to the producer and host of the show about the situation.
Bernard Allotey Jacobs, who was the Central Regional Communications Director of NDC Party, has been the chairman of the party for the past eight years said he was sidelined in the campaign leading to the 2016 elections as he didn’t receive campaign materials and resources
He, therefore, decided not to seek reelection in 2018.“I won’t contest anymore, I have my reasons…I’ve told you that I’m very bitter and I’ll not hide it. The way things went about if I’m to voice out, it wouldn’t be good for the NDC party. If I contest I’ll say a lot of things, it’s better I don’t contest and allow new faces to come out and lead the party.”
“The party’s structure was sidelined before the 2016 elections. They avoided the party structures, no funds, no T-shirts. I want somebody to come and tell me that I was given campaign materials or cash.” He said on Peace FM.
