Member of Parliament for Sefwi Bekwai, who is also a Member of Mines and Energy, Hon. Alfred Obeng Boateng has debunked rumors and allegations leveled against him concerning his participation in illegal galamsey mining in Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi 101.1 FM in Accra, he stated that he is an engineer who owns a mining company that uses large equipment to work and cannot even be used for small-scale mining.
“That rumor is false because the machines I use in my company cannot be used for small scale galamsey. It is for proper mining works”, he said.
According to him, these allegations are being leveled against him because he assured small-scale miners who had their license to work lawfully protection against police harassment.
“Some of the small-scale miners have acquired their license to work but they are sometimes harassed by policemen so if I promised to protect and curb that issue, does it mean I’m into galamsey? He quizzed.
He promised that his lawyers will take Peter Gipson Twum on to show his acclaimed evidence against him as the young man strongly said that he has all evidence against the Member of Parliament.
He added that there is no way he can campaign for a position without acknowledging the flag bearer of the party, therefore that issue leveled against him is also false.
Hon. Alfred Obeng indicated that it is not surprising that his votes from the election were higher than the presidential candidate because he is quite popular in that constituency than his flagbearer.
“This is what happens if you are a popular MP, obviously you might get more votes than your presidential candidate. It doesn’t mean I didn’t campaign for him or I only focused on myself”, he said.
