Ghanaian actor Joseph Osei, better known by his stage as Wayoosi, has revealed the reason behind his exit from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), blaming Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, generally known as NAPO, the Minister of Energy.
Wayoosi revealed that despite providing substantial assistance to the minister during NAPO’s campaign for the Manhyia South MP seat, he felt ignored.
He recalled taking the initiative to contact delegates in order to obtain votes for NAPO, which helped the minister win election.
In an interview with Zionfelix, Wayoosi did, however, voice disappointment, pointing out that after NAPO gave him unwavering support, their interactions with him became less frequent.
The actor explained that his indifference in the NPP stemmed from feeling ignored by NAPO’s initiatives.
“I got to know NPP through NAPO, and he needed my assistance for his MP campaign. He handed me a list of delegates who might oppose him, and I reached out to each one to persuade them to vote for us. Since he was elected MP, our conversations haven’t lasted more than 30 seconds.
“Nearly every time I called, he was occupied with a meeting. It dawned on me that he no longer needed my help after achieving his goal. This realization caused me to lose interest in the party,” Wayoosi stated in Twi.
Wayoosi has been aggressively endorsing John Dramani Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His remarks came in the wake of rumors that Dr. Bawumia could select NAPO to be the NPP’s running mate in the next 2024 elections.
