New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Bryan Acheampong, has claimed that he fully funded Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign for the party’s 2023 primaries.
Acheampong stated that the present Vice President did not contribute monetarily to his personal campaign to be the NPP’s flagbearer. “During Dr. Bawumia’s primaries in 2023, he did not bring any money into the Eastern Region.
“I paid every single penny for him to become the flagbearer of this country. He didn’t pay a penny,” he stressed at a regional engagement as he solidifies his credentials to lead the NPP.
He said his personal funds provided substantial support to all constituency executives in the area. “Everyone, including the constituency executives, collected $1,500,” he said.
Acheampong also related how he spoke with Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during the funeral of the Ashanti Queen Mother in Kumasi, and the former president admitted that he had contributed to funding the NPP’s operations.
“In 2016, 2017, you said that I was the single largest contributor of you coming to power. You said it, and it is a fact. In 2024, I am telling you that I funded Dr. Bawumia more than I even funded Nana Akufo-Addo,” Acheampong declared.
Additionally, he disclosed that he continuously backed constituencies all around the nation. “I was giving them a hundred thousand Ghana cedis every month in this region, 33 constituencies, except for six parliamentary campaigns that I thought were strong,” he said.
Acheampong challenged anyone to refute his assertions, highlighting that party members in each of the 14 regions he had visited had heard them. Tell Upper East if I’m lying so they may go and tell the public that we were present when he told Eastern Region, he continued.
