Abla Dzifa Gomashie’s appointment as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts is very crucial!
This is the first time someone from the cultural and creative industries has been made the ‘main’ minister of this ministry since its creation in 2013. In fact, this is the first time industry people have ‘lobbied’ for their own to be chosen as the ‘main’ minister and not the deputy.
We’ve seen ‘main’ ministers of this sector who did zilch while at post; some were completely out of touch with the operations of the sector because they came from alien fields. In some cases, their deputies (who are from the sector) could not make impact because these deputies had to work at the behest of the ‘main’ ministers – and they dared not outshine their bosses.
As someone from a background of culture, arts, heritage who could not do ‘much’ as deputy minister of the same sector about 12 years ago, I pray Dzifa proves a point as Main Minister.
I pray she harnesses culture, arts, heritage, hospitality, as fuel to drive tourism, which is currently one of Ghana’s top earners.
