Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, a former minister for environment, science, technology, and innovation, has stated that despite his critiques of the current government, he is not a traitor to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He stated his goal was to strengthen both Ghana’s national government and the NPP in power.
Speaking with TV3’s Kemini Amanor on the Hot Issues on TV3 Sunday, October 22, he said “I don’t think I am criticizing or attacking the government, no. The president said there should be citizens and not spectators, so I am offering my views to make the party stronger and Ghana a better place.”
Asked whether he would consider himself a traitor in the NPP? he answered, “Not at all. I am patriotic, that is what I will say. The word traitor is too far away from my dwelling place.”
A 36-page report titled “Report on the work of IMCIM so far and the way forward” was written by the former chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on unlawful Mining (IMCIM), who made various claims against government officials who were actively engaged in unlawful small-scale mining (Galamsey).
According to the study, several government employees and regular individuals engaged in galamsey.
After reviewing the findings, Attorney General Godfred Dame advised the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The recommendation said that each person included in Prof. Frimpong- Boateng’s study refuted all the claims made against them in the report.
Mr. Dame claims that the Police’s repeated attempts to get further information from Professor Frimpong Boateng to support the claims made in the Report and help them carry out additional investigations were ineffective.
