The Speaker of Parliament Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has brought finality to whether or not he genuinely won the election to become a speaker or was by consensus.
The NPP caucus in Parliament led by their leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has claimed the Speaker did not win the election because the electoral process was marred by the confusion which truncated the counting and declaration therefore both caucuses reached a consensus to appoint Bagbin as the Speaker.
However addressing Parliament on Friday, January 15, 2020, Rt. Hon. Abban Bagbin clarified that he was duly elected as Speaker with 138 votes as against 136 secured by his contender Prof. Mike Oquaye brought by the NPP caucus, with a rejected ballot.
He went ahead to commend the house for having confidence in him assuring that he will abide by his oath of office and the Constitution to preside over the house with impartiality.
