Ghana’s Agriculture Minister, Eric Opoku has stated emphatically that he will only lead the National Democratic Congress if the grassroots of the party wants him to.
He claims that he will fully embrace the challenge if the grassroots choose to offer him the chance.
He stated that God has a method of selecting National Democratic Congress (NDC) leaders over the years, and he will not turn down the opportunity if it comes his way.
Eric Opoku, who was speaking on Accra-based Accra FM, said, “God has a way of choosing leaders for the NDC over the years, and if that favour falls on me, why not? I will gladly accept it,” he stated.
“Sometimes, when leaders are chosen, some may dislike the decision, but it becomes what everyone must rally behind to win the next election.
“If the party’s grassroots decide I should lead them, I will lead them.”
For the 2028 elections, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will need to choose a new flagbearer.
Since the political party took control following the 2024 elections, a number of names have emerged with significant traction.
He did, however, note that his current priorities are to make sure the government is successful in improving the lives of Ghanaians.
