Aduana Stars striker, Yahaya Mohammed has vehemently stated that he would have declined call-up into the national team by Charles Kwabla Akonnor ahead of the friendly game against Mali.
Ghana will lock horns with West Africa powerhouse Mali on October 9 in Antalya, Turkey.
However, the head coach of the Black Stars recently released a 23-man squad for the upcoming game where local players were snubbed with a call-up.
It could be recalled that Yahaya Mohammed and other three players made the cut in C.K Akonnor’s squad in March for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers but unfortunately for them, the qualifiers were postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to Kumasi based Pure FM, he said, “I’m not surprised by my exclusion from the Black Stars. I would have been bold to tell Akonnor that I can’t be part of the squad if I was called upon. The reason is simple, I have been off the pitch for some time now and I lack match fitness”
“I would have only accepted to be part of the call-up if the coach, could assure me of keeping me at the bench because if I play and fail to deliver, it will block my chance and other chances of local players in the future,” he said.
