Teacher unions won’t end their strike until their demands are met, according to Angel Carbornu, head of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT).
According to Angel Carbornu, the teachers’ unions had run out of alternatives and a strike was their only available option.
“We’ve gone overboard in our preparations for the strike announcement.” One by one, each of the 10 regional secretaries of the unions made clear to the administration that teachers are working in jeopardy.
Background
Four teacher unions announced an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday, July 4 in response to demands for the payment of the cost-of-living allowance (COLA).
The unions, which include the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), are asking for a payment of 20% of their base pay.
