Former president and leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has vowed to name James Gyakye Quayson as a minister if he wins the 2024 polls
Prior to the by-election slated for Assin North on Tuesday, June 27, Mahama assured residents of the region when he spoke to them over the weekend.
“He [Gyake Quayson] is humble, God-fearing, and respects everyone. If God helps me to be president, nothing will stop me from appointing him as a minister. Even as an opposition MP, look at what he has been able to do in terms of development from his own pockets. Just imagine what he would do if he becomes a minister,” Mahama added.
Following the annulment of the Mr. Quayson-winning 2020 parliamentary election in the region, the Electoral Commission set a by-election for Assin North.
Gyakye Quayson’s name had to be removed from Parliament’s records after the Supreme Court declared the election invalid and found the NDC candidate guilty of having had dual citizenship before registering to run in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Quayson was later nominated for the by-election by the National Democratic Congress.
