In the course of the third week of January 2020, news emanating from the Eastern Region, Asiakwa to be precise saw the town’s head, Nana Okyere Gyau agreeing to the bauxite mining suggestion by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NNP) rumoured in the country with some organisations like AROCHA Ghana fighting against it.
In a telephone interview with Nana Okyere Gyau on Bryt FM’s Midday news regarding some youths demonstrating against the chief’s decision to which he said, “Don’t mind them, they are all fake. They are not youth from my town. They are against people from the opposition party”.
To him, the demonstrators are people from those against his decision who are not even leaving in the town.
As to why he thinks they are outsiders, Nana Okyere Gyau averred, “My youths are happy about our decisions because it’s going to provide them with jobs hence they will not go against this decision since they are the ones to benefit from it”.
He then advised the youth who took part in the demonstration yet were not recognised to stop that dubious act immediately.
“This is because there have been numerous governments who have come into power with nothing much to talk about, so if there is a leader who can provide a good thing like free education, then how can he do something destructive to a community where he comes from?”, he quizzed.
