The General Secretary for Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Godfred Abulbire Adogma, has debunked rumors concerning the increment in fares.
Due to the rampant increment in Fuel Prices, the news went round that transport fares would increase by Monday, 25th October 2021.
However, speaking in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, 101.1, he urged Ghanaians to ignore the rumors because there would not be any increment in fares by the said date.
According to him, The GPRTU is having meetings with the government to reduce the unchecked increases in fuel prices and not to increase transport fares.
“We’ve not issued any statement to increase fares by Monday as people are saying. We don’t even know where that news came from, we are trying to talk the government into reducing the fuel prices”, he added.
He, however, added that with the constant change in prices of fuel there might be an increase in fares but it is not anytime soon.
“Fares will definitely be increased with the way things are going but it is not this soon, maybe around December and even at that it might be a 15% increment”, he said.
