The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu has deployed reinforcement teams, including armoured vehicles, to Nalerigu in the North East Region following recent arson attacks that have heightened tensions in the area.
The deployment, announced in a press release by the Police Public Affairs Unit, is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and property, and enforcing the government-imposed curfew.
The decision to strengthen security comes after two houses were set ablaze in the regional capital, raising safety concerns among residents and prompting swift action by law enforcement authorities.
According to the police statement, the reinforcement teams have been dispatched to Nalerigu and its surrounding communities following reports that some youth set fire to the houses and issued threats to burn additional properties and attack residents.
The deployed personnel will also assist the North East Regional Police Command in intensifying security patrols along major highways to ensure the safety of commuters traveling through the region.
Police have assured the public that investigations into the arson attacks are ongoing and that all persons involved will be arrested and brought to justice.
The Command further urged residents, particularly those in Nalerigu, to remain calm, comply fully with the curfew, and cooperate with security agencies as efforts continue to restore peace and maintain law and order in the area.
