Dr. Bryan Acheampong, an Abetifi MP, has boldly proclaimed his ambition to run for and win the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at the NPP Constituency Chairmen Caucus Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, June 21, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture stated unequivocally that his bid is not symbolic.
“I’m not here to test the waters. I’m here for power,” he told party faithful.
Highlighting his years of service from the grassroots level to his current position in Parliament and previous government position, Dr. Acheampong bragged about his political background.
He stated that he feels he is in a good position to lead the NPP into a “new era,” and that the time has arrived to do so.
One fan was heard stating, “This is not just about Bryan,” amid the audience’s applause and chanting. The goal is to strengthen the party as a whole.
On January 31, 2026, the NPP is anticipated to hold its presidential primaries, kicking off what is believed to be a fierce internal struggle.
Dr. Acheampong joins an increasing number of candidates, which also includes former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong and former Education Minister and Bosomtwe MP Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
