The Deputy Minister for Finance Abena Osei Asare who is also the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East has assured that government will protect its flagship policies such as the Free Senior High School from being touched by the International Monetary Fund.
According to her, the move to go to IMF is for support to implement an enhanced domestic program to help the economy recover from the effect of the Russia/Ukraine war and the Covid-19 pandemic.
The MP on Sunday, 3rd July 2022, as part of her routine tour of the constituency, visited 6 churches in the town of Abakoase to fellowship and addresses the congregants on the economy.
She continued to New Jejeti to engage the Zongo community as well.
The MP “acknowledged the current difficulties including the increases in food, goods and petroleum prices as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia/ Ukraine War as well as other domestic factors. I explained that the Government is kick-starting negotiations with the IMF for support to implement an enhanced domestic program to help the economy recover from the twin effects stated above. I assured all that Government will protect its Social Intervention programs which will improve the economy and sustain the livelihoods of its citizenry”.
The MP donated cash and bags of rice to the churches and the community members.
