The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Mines, Hon. George Mireku Duker has facilitated a crunch meeting with key Private Sector stakeholders on the need to collaborate with Management of Rand Refinery, South Africa to obtain the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) Certification.
At the meeting, the CEO of Rand Refinery, Mr. Praveen Baijnath indicated that, if the LBMA will make any partnership with any African country to bring on board gold from Artisanal Small-Scale Mining, it will be Ghana.
He stressed that, Ghana has made significant strides towards the regularization of the mining sector and her their efforts are commendable.
The Head Source, Rand Refinery Business Development, Mr. Jason Mcpherson, during his presentation explained the need to have the LMBA accreditation, saying “it is critical in order to deliver products to the over the counter market at a suitable gold price”.
He added that LBMA is the solution to increasing the value chain which will enhance liquidity.
All stakeholders present expressed their satisfaction in the LMBA certificate acquisition and the technical support offered by the Rand refinery.
Representatives from the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners, Chamber of Mines, Gold Coast Refinery, Exporters and Bank of Ghana (BoG) attended the all important meeting.
