Ghanaians have taken a swipe at the Government on Monday’s increment of utility tariffs by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced tariff increases effective September 1, 2022.
Tariffs for electricity and water are expected to go up by 27.15% and 21.55% respectively.
But speaking to the reporter, a section of the public indicated the increment has come at the wrong time considering the current economic challenges.
According to the aggrieved citizens, most Ghanaians now find it difficult to understand the rationale behind the increment of utility bills at the time of this global economic crisis.
“In fact, we are not happy at all, how can Government increase water and electricity bills at this time in our lives? Can’t he see we are suffering in Ghana now?” some Ghanaians complained.
Others were also of the view that the increment would enable utility providers to serve their customers well devoid of interruptions.
Despite agreeing to the current hardship, some Ghanaians were optimistic the increment will also increase the finances of providers which in turn rake in proceed for the Government.
