The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe has expressed worry over the high level of indiscipline on social media.
He said the advancement in technology should not obliterate the morale fiber of Ghanaian society and affect the culture of discipline.
“You cannot hide behind anonymity on social media and insult and misbehave. That is why I said that because we have advanced in technology therefore we can put away the discipline that was thought in our infancy. If there is ever anytime we need that Presbyterian discipline it is now”
Dan Botwe who is also a Member of Parliament for Okere said this during the 100-anniversary celebration of Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana under the theme ” Contribution of the Presbyterian Church of Church of Ghana towards National Development: The Akuapem Presbytery in focus”.
Dan Kwaku Botwe explained that it is incumbent on every politician and for that matter any government in power to ensure that there is some level of discipline regarding the role they play as representatives of the masses and as leaders of the country to move the country forward.
He maintained that if Ghanaians do not become law-abiding, it will be difficult to develop the country as wished because no country can develop without being disciplined.
Hon. Dan Botwe also emphasized that all schools irrespective of being a mission school or not should imbibe discipline in the children to enable the country to have a disciplined future leader with high moral values.
The Chairperson of Akuapem Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church Ghana, Rev. Ishmael Dometey Asare on his part said, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has immensely contributed to the development of Ghana particular in the areas of education and health through its numerous educational institutions and health facilities inundated parts of Ghana
He said the Church has also contributed to the development of the human resources of the country by producing dignitaries such as politicians, reverend ministers, doctors, nurses as well as teachers saying “this is the aim of the church and it is in honor of God”.
He, therefore, urged all Presbyterians to hold on to the integrity and the good ethics of the church to demonstrate it to others to glorify God.
