Mr. Maxwell Kudekor, Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association in the Eastern Region has called on the media to guard against excessive injection of jokes and proverbs into news presentation, especially football commentary, describing it as unprofessional.
He said Journalists should always bear in mind that they have been trained to practice professional journalism, not concert journalism, adding, jokers who love concert journalism more than professional journalism are free to join concert parties and leave the media space for serious journalists.
Speaking during second graduation ceremony by the GIS Media College at Asamankese, Mr. Maxwell Kudekor said “Journalism is a public trust, a responsibility to report the truth with accuracy and fairness. Journalism is also a business, and like any business, it has to attract customers.”
He said a key area of grave concern is ethical decline in the media and it comes as no surprise that the public are losing confidence in the media, according to a number of studies, adding ,What is more disturbing is that while confidence in the media is waning, ethical breaches are on the rise and called for collective responsibility to halt this trend with urgent promptitude.
Mr. Kudekor added that the Eastern Region GJA will not flinch from doing everything its resources will permit to raise the sense of ethical discipline among practitioners in jurisdiction.
He urged all journalists in the region to join forces with the GJA executive to win the war against ethical misconduct and professional retrogression.
National Schools Inspectorate Authority Director in the Eastern Region,Mr. Samuel Opoku lauded the media in the Country and charged them to use their platforms to solve real world problems.
He called on the graduans to build strong network to support themselves in practice.
