Former parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the Asuogyaman constituency Paul Asare Ansah has advised to integrate the various ministries overseeing the different modes of transport into one single Ministry of Transport.
In a Facebook post to congratulate the President-elect John Dramani Mahama, on his resounding victory in the just ended general elections, Mr. Paul Ansah was of the view it is the only way to help him (Mahama) fulfil the promise to operate with a lean government of 60 ministers.
According to the former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, such sction by Mr. Mahama will facilitate the proper planning and development of a modern multimodal transport network befitting an emerging middle-income economy like Ghana.
He added that “It will help proper mobilization and management of our limited national resources in providing projects that will help address critical needs of the transport sector”

Dear President-Elect Mahama,
Congratulations in the first place for your resounding victory in the just ended general elections. Judging from the emphatic nature of your win, the expectation of the Ghanaian people for you to deliver nothing but good governance is equally enormous. One surest way for you to succeed is by being a listening president.
In this regard, I have one advice to give you concerning the development of the transport sector where my entire working life of 26 years was concentrated.
THE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT
I believe it will serve the interest of the people of Ghana better to integrate the various ministries overseeing the different modes of transport into one single Ministry of Transport. This will mean that the rail, maritime, road and aviation sectors will all be under the same ministry for the following reasons:
a. It will help you to fulfil your promise to operate with a lean government of 60 ministers. Four deputy ministers could be appointed to handle each of the modes under one overall Minister of Transport
b. It will facilitate the proper planning and development of a modern multimodal transport network befitting an emerging middle-income economy like Ghana.
c. It will help to properly align the integrated transport sector objectives with the nation’s economic development goals
d. It will help proper mobilization and management of our limited national resources in providing projects that will help address critical needs of the transport sector.
More to Come on the way forward for the transport sector.
