The Deputy National Director of Arrocha Ghana, Mr. Daryl Bosu has urged the government of Ghana, the Minerals Commission, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to focus more on the enforcement of the mining laws especially the aspect which mandates miners to restore mined land.
According to him, when the activities of a licensed mining firm still destroy water bodies or the land, he sees it as illegal mining since at the end of the day their activities are a threat to the environment which is equal to illegal mining activities.
He explained that the government fought against illegal mining and introduce community mining which was a good thing, but yet more water bodies are being polluted and there is no sustainability or any indication of land restoration measures put in place.
Daryl Bosu urged the government, Minerals Commission, and EPA to enforce the mining laws so that legal mining firms restore the land after when they finish mining on such lands.
He made this known when ‘Arrocha Ghana’ company partnered with ‘Pernod Ricard Ghana’ a Japanese company to plant over 3,000 trees on a 9.5-acre land as part of ‘Pernod Ricard Ghana’ initiative known as “RESPONSIBLE ALL DAY” at the Adensu mining site Sagyimase- Kyebi in the Eastern region.
Eunice Osei Tutu, who is the Sustainability and Responsibility Manager for Pernod Ricard Ghana and West Africa, revealed that ‘ RESPONSIBLE ALL DAY’ is a day set aside by ‘The Pernod Ricard Company.

Therefore this year, the management of the company dedicated the ‘RESPONSIBLE ALL DAY’ Celebration to a tree planting exercise at the Adensu mining site, Sagyimase- Kyebi in the Eastern region under the theme “HELPING TO PROTECT AND RESTORE NATURE AND BIODIVERSITY”.
She further said, the Pernod Ricard company believes that the tree planting will help restore the deteriorated former galamsey site into normalcy and also help regain its nature which will be suitable for farming activities after some years.
Madam Eunice Osei Tutu explained further that, ‘Pernod Ricard Ghana company was motivated to embark on land restoration this year because the company itself uses organic ingredients which are natural and directly from plants hence the company must make sure it nurtures these organic plants to sustain the ecosystem because human beings depend on the ecosystem to thrive.
